Atefeh was barely sixteen years old when she became the target of a local religious court judge, who ended up hand carrying her case to Tehran, getting confirmation of his judgement to hang her by crane (hoisted to death on a crane) and personally putting the noose around her neck.

The only saving grace for her was that until the very moment she was raised by the noose around the neck, she did not know she was going to die. She had been told this was all theatrical playcting scene to frighten people in her town of Nekka.

The BBC has created a re-enaction and documentary of the hanging of a young girl when even Iranian law does not permit it. The judge simply stated that in his opinion she was fully matured and was 22-years old though her birth certificate and later her deth certificate both clearly indicated she was 16-years old and could not be hanged.

He had her hanged because she dared to talk back at him in court!
